Juvenile familial mosaic degeneration of the cornea associated with megalocornea.

چکیده
TBE classification of the heredo-familial degenerations of the cornea proposed by Franceschetti and Fomi (1950) and Franceschetti (1954), includes among the degenerations of the anterior limiting membrane (Bowman's) a rather rare manifestation called "mosaic degeneration". Because of its rarity, and because of certain unusual features, we have considered it worth while to report three cases recently observed. The patients were three out of five brothers (Fig. 1), the oldest and the youngest ofwhom showed no ocular abnormalities. The father and mother had both been dead for some time but, according to their sons, they had enjoyed good eyesight until late in life. As far as could be ascertained there was no consangulinity.

Molecular mechanism of CHRDL1-mediated X-linked megalocornea in humans and in Xenopus model.
Chordin-Like 1 (CHRDL1) mutations cause non-syndromic X-linked megalocornea (XMC) characterized by enlarged anterior eye segments. Mosaic corneal degeneration, presenile cataract and secondary glaucoma are associated with XMC. Beside that CHRDL1 encodes Ventroptin, a secreted bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) antagonist, the molecular mechanism of XMC is not well understood yet. In a family with...

Megalocornea in isolation is a rare congenital enlargement of the cornea greater than 13 mm in diameter. Patients with megalocornea are prone to cataract formation, crystalline lens subluxation, zonular deficiencies and dislocation of the posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) within the capsular bag. A 55-year-old male with megalocornea in isolation developed subluxation of the capsular ba...
متن کاملX-linked megalocornea caused by mutations in CHRDL1 identifies an essential role for ventroptin in anterior segment development.
X-linked megalocornea (MGC1) is an ocular anterior segment disorder characterized by an increased cornea diameter and deep anterior chamber evident at birth and later onset of mosaic corneal degeneration (shagreen), arcus juvenilis, and presenile cataracts. We identified copy-number variation, frameshift, missense, splice-site and nonsense mutations in the Chordin-like 1 gene (CHRDL1) on Xq23 a...

" Keratoglobus, also known as megalocomea, is usually accompanied by infantile hydrophthalmos or glaucoma" (Bietti, 1925). " There is a form of ectasia of the bulb known as hydrophthalmos, megalophthalmos, or also, because the enlargement of the cornea particularly attracts our attention, as megalocornea or keratoglobus: the affection is congenital or appears shortly after birth without any app...

Wolfram-like syndrome (WFSL) is a rare autosomal dominant disease characterised by congenital progressive hearing loss, diabetes mellitus, and optic atrophy. The patient was a boy with the juvenile form of diabetes mellitus and findings which clinically matched the symptoms of Wolfram syndrome. At the age of 3 1/4 years, diabetes mellitus was diagnosed in this boy who also had severe psychomoto...
